AMM COMMUNITY STORY - HOW A YEAR 9 HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENT RAISED MONEY FOR A CHARITY IN HER OWN UNIQUE WAY

While many conventional ways to donate money to charities exist (and we're immensely grateful for them!), we're constantly reminded that there are individuals who find unique ways to give back to the community. At AMM, we're thrilled to share the inspiring story of one such individual – a young girl with a heart as warm as a bowl of soup on a chilly winter's evening.

Introducing Anita Younger, a Year 9 high-school student. She was tasked with an assignment: choose an organisation or cause to support. As the world grappled with the onset of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic lockdown, Anita felt compelled to help a charity making a tangible difference during these challenging times.

"Not everyone chose to raise money. Some opted to raise awareness. I, however, decided on fundraising."

While researching on Google, Anita discovered numerous organisations offering aid. Yet, Alex Makes Meals caught her eye, mainly due to its unique mission: supporting the often-underappreciated healthcare workers with delicious, nutritious meals.

"I picked AMM because of its relevancy amidst the lockdown. Plus, I love cooking, which resonated with what AMM was doing for healthcare workers."

Fueled by her passion for food, Anita embarked on creating a cookbook. She rallied her mates, family, and community, requesting their cherished family recipes. The overwhelming response allowed her to craft a cookbook that encapsulated the spirit of her community.

"I wanted contributors to feel a sense of involvement, as if they too were assisting during the pandemic."

To share this culinary gem, Anita sold digital copies of her cookbook, directing the proceeds to Alex Makes Meals.

"I believed that creating this cookbook was worthwhile. Selling it meant that buyers would also feel they were contributing."

"I'm confident that the funds were used to provide meals to healthcare workers."

But for Anita, it wasn't just about raising money. It was about conveying a message:

"I hope my contribution helps others recognise the diverse ways they can support charities. Engaging with a charity doesn't require monumental efforts. Even occasional donations or volunteering can make a significant difference."

We express our heartfelt gratitude to Anita for rallying her community.
